Black Women and HIV

“How dare you say that!” she screamed (or something like that). I suppose she thought I was making a racist statement.

(Thursday, Trice reported, “African-American women made up 78 percent of newly diagnosed HIV cases among women from 2002 to 2003, even though they made up only 37 percent of the female population.”)

After that interchange, my wife told me the producer was holding a sign over my head saying, “Ask Cal more questions.” Apparently, the rest of the participants were unable to evoke any emotion from the audience. Maybe Waddingdon's aversion to Penny's leadership in pro-life movement colored her judgment.

I just told the truth. It was obvious that black men were becoming infected with HIV through the sharing of needles using of drugs and in jail. These same men were having intercourse with black women. It stood to reason that the objects of their affections would stand a high risk of also becoming infected.

After all, it is much easier to spread the disease from man to woman than woman to man.
