Bloggers Start Using "Left Stream," "Leftstream" Media Instead of "Mainstream"
A friend of mind chided me when I used the term “Mainstream” to describe the traditional media. He said, “Leftstream” was more descriptive.
I concluded he was correct and I started using the term “Left Stream.”
Today, I decided to see what other bloggers were using the term.
April 4th Google’s blog search engine lists Sola-Man using “left-stream” on “The Impudent Finger.” Again, on September 7th and on 12th was used there by Solablog.
Blogster’s “Pull on Superman’s Cloak” used left stream twice on April 21st.
For “leftstream,” I found the first mention on May 20th by “The Rules of Engagement” (loyaloppositionblog.com) by Jeremy D. Thompson.
On June 6th, “CronWatch.com” joined in.
On June 28th, July 29th, August 9th “Sparks from the Anvil” used the term.
July 6th 8th,10th, 12th and 17th It showed up next on “Notes of a Nervous Harpist.”
"Fedora Pundit" used the term on July 15th.
September 7th "Solablog" used the term as two words.
September 26th and October 1st, 19th two times on Nov. 13th , Dec. 16th
“All Things Right” joined in.
On Sept. 27th, October 14th, 17th “Talk Junkie” used the term.
"South Dakota Politics" chimed in on Nov. 13.
“No Runny Eggs” started using leftsteam on Nov. 26th, Dec. 20th.
On Dec. 20, “Republican Ruminations” took up the description.
October 27th, McHenry County Blog joined the parade, criticizing Illinois media for not mentioning that Governor Rod Blagojevich’s “All Kids” program was aimed primarily at children in the state illegally. (After all, Illinois already had “Healthy Kids” for poor children.) I used it again on Nov. 10th and 17th, 27th, which was cross posted at Illinoize.
"Milblogging," on Dec. 21st was the most recent to use the two word version.
There's a long way to go to overtake "mainstream media" with 86,625 hits and "main stream media" with 10,992 hits on the same search engine. The regular Google search engine turned up 61.6 million mentions versus 13,400 for "leftstream media" (but none under its "news" search engine) and 134 for "left stream media." Some were from blogs not indexed by Googles blog seach engine.
