Kathy Salvi Open House Indicative of Broad Support in McHenry County
Some--like McHenry County Republican Central Committee Chairman and Treasurer--is for David McSweeney, but LeFew doesn’t live in the congressional district. Balancing that off is McHenry County Board Chairman Ken Koehler’s hosting of the open house. (Koehler does not live in the district either.)
The other GOP powerhouse is Sheriff Keith Nygren--a third prominent Republican who does not live in the district. He is reportedly for McSweeney, too. Both LeFew and Nygren decided to favor McSweeney before Salvi announced.
Pro-lifer leader Irene Napier’s statewide group, the Illinois Federation for Right To Life, also endorsed McSweeney early on. Nevertheless, stalwarts from her group were at the Salvi open house and Kathy's brother-in-law Joe Wheeler is influential in the McHenry County Right to Life Political Action Committee.
Mailings are already arriving in the district, with McSweeney's sending the most so far.
