As the New Year approaches, we all have a chance to reflect on the many blessings each of us have as Americans. It is also a time to set new goals for the upcoming year. In 2005, I set a goal to return Illinois ' 8th Congressional District to Republican control. I want each of you to know I worked very hard through 2005 to ensure I could meet this goal in 2006.

Now with 2006 upon us, I want to take the opportunity to reaffirm this goal to each and every family of our district. Our families deserve to have someone in Washington who represents our values not those of liberal special interests. Last week, I officially filed my petitions to run as your next representative of Illinois ' 8th Congressional District.

In order to make this campaign about the issues important to our families, I need your help. I will be using this regular newsletter to give all of you updates from the campaign trail, talk about the issues that are important to us, and offer opportunities to help. I encourage you to visit my website regularly and post issues you would like discussed either in my Blog or through the "Ask Kathy" feature. The best way to keep this campaign focused on the important issues is to keep you informed and receive feedback from you, the voters and the families of our district.

As we spend the upcoming holidays with family and friends, let's remember our brave men and women defending our freedom around the world, those who are alone over these joyous times and the less fortunate who greatly need our help.
