Truth in Reporting
In McHenry, for instance, a 24-cent increase really means a 44-cent increase, the reporter says.
Today, the Daily Herald runs an article about the fallout throughout the Daily Herald circulation area, mentioning how Jim and Cathy Peschke’s CRAFT organization helped kill a special referendum in Winthrop Harbor, that I don’t think the judge should have even allowed.
I quote the paragraphs about CRAFT, because the Daily Herald makes one pay to see most of its articles after a week:
But members of the anti-tax group Citizens for Responsible and Fair Taxes, or CRAFT, pointed out that state law would allow the district to raise taxes 82 cents, not 39.
More than 57 percent of voters rejected the request.
“We were just killed by CRAFT,” District 1 Superintendent James Tenbusch said. “They told the big lie. I think it confused enough of our voters that we were defeated.”
Who do you think told the "Big Lie"?
