Andy Martin TV Debate Denial Appeal Press Release
Here's Andy Martin's press release:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ANDY MARTIN APPEALS JUDGE’S DEBATE DENIAL ORDER
[Notice: Court documents included as attachments]
(CHICAGO)(January 25, 2006) Republican gubernatorial candidate Andy Martin filed an emergency appeal to the Illinois Court of Appeals, Second District from the order of a DuPage County Circuit judge denying his motion earlier today for a temporary restraining order against a purported “debate” later this evening being conducted by WBBM-TV and others.
“It was a little bizarre,” Martin stated. “The judge lamented the ‘apathy’ of the public concerning the electoral process, and then went on to make a major contribution to that public apathy and suspicion.
“He ruled that a powerful New York media conglomerate, CBS, was free to involve local agencies and organizations in a massive fraud on readers and viewers, and a gross perversion of democracy. Is it any wonder that most citizens think the electoral system is rigged? It really is.
“CBS admitted that it manufactures news and rigs election coverage to favor its friends and punish its perceived ‘enemies.’
“Nevertheless, in a democracy, however corrupt and biased the media may be, we have to adhere to due process of law, and appeal,” Martin stated. “And that’s what I am doing. As a Fighting Illini football player I was trained to pay hard and fair until the end of the game, and I intend to just that.
“CBS can have its crooked little debate, but they have cheapened their news department by their unconscionable behavior and political bias. Because other TV stations and news organizations have invited me to their debates, the public will eventually get to see honest news and fair and balanced election coverage when I am allowed to participate [WILL-TV, WTTW-TV, WLS-TV].”
