McSweeney "Buck Stops Here" Mailing – Address Side (Click to Enlarge)
The McSweeney is looking for volunteers, people to write letters to the editor, work at headquarters, make phone calls, walk door-to-door and send last minute support cards to friends.
There is legitimate criticism of incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean for using taxpayer dollars to send out what look like campaign mailings to me and, something I missed, noted in a Nov. 20, 2005, Sun-Times story: having taxpayers pay for automated phone calls throughout her district. That is truly outrageous.
McSweeney says he will fight to cut the self-promotional congressional mailings by 25%. He pledges, "never (to) use taxpayer dollars for his personal gain."
Concerning presentation, it seems to me that using black ink on a colored background softens what should have been a hard message. Then, again, if McSweeney wins, that message will end up all over the Chicago airwaves.
