Part II – Sun-Times Questionnaire – Contributions, Taxes, Abortion & Gambling
And, here’s the question I like about campaign contributions:
The tax hike question:
The Sun-Times is the only one of the big three newspapers to ask about abortion:
Name your five biggest contributors and the amount they contributed.Because the questionnaire comes so relatively early in the campaign season, but after the December 30th State Board of Elections campaign reporting deadline, this might flush out some larger 2006 contributions.
The tax hike question:
Does Illinois need to raise either the state income or sales tax? Please explain your view. And a property tax question:
Would you reduce the state’s reliance on property taxes to fund education? If you believe this is not a proper approach, is there another alternative? Now, there’s an open-ended question.
The Sun-Times is the only one of the big three newspapers to ask about abortion:
With changes in the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court, advocates on both sides of the abortion debate believe the likelihood of Roe v. Wade being overturned has been strengthened, possibly shifting new responsibility to the states on abortion. If presented with the opportunity to structure state abortion laws without the Roe precedent in place, how should Illinois law be changed with regard to abortions? Should it not be changed?Next a question about gambling:
The Legislature has been split on the question of gambling expansion. Top Senate Democrats, including President Emil Jones, have advocated for new casino licenses, including in the south suburbs, Waukegan and Chicago. House Democrats, by contract, have voted to abolish casino gambling entirely in Illinois. Do you favor expanding the number of licenses in Illinois? What should be done about the stalled 10th license? Should slot machines be allowed at horse racing tracks? Do you favor allowing for the licensing of video poker machines in bars and restaurants as a means to increase state revenues? To return to McHenry County Blog, click here.
