More Information About Write-Ins for Governor

In Adams County, over 2½% wrote-in their choice for governor. That’s 525 people.

In Boone County almost 2% of the electorate cast write-in votes for governor. 301 in all.

In Carroll County, there were 82 write-in votes for governor—1.35% of the total.

1.77% of the people in Cass County cast write-in votes, but there’s no indication whom the 80 people voted for.

604 people wrote in their choice for governor in Champaign County, 1.15% of those voting..

In DeKalb County, 1.8% wrote in for governor. That’s 461 voters.

DuPage County reports 3,811 write-in votes or almost 1.5% of the total. There is no detail.

Fulton County had a healthy 1.4% write-in turnout—182 votes.

Greene County reported 30 write-in votes, 6/10ths of 1%.

I couldn’t get the Grundy County web site to work.

Henry County had 150 write-in votes. That was 84/100ths of the total.

I can’t find election results for Jackson County.

Johnson County reports 34 write-in votes for governor or 77/100ths of 1% of the total.

In Kankakee County, over 1% or 321 voted by write-in. Topinka carried the county 46% to Blagojevich’s 40% to Whitney’s 12.6%.

If Kendall County has election returns on its web site, I can’t find them.

Knox County, excluding Galesburg, reports 47 write-in votes or almost 6/10ths of the total.

There seem to be no election results on the Lawrence County web page.

Macoupin County gives total write-ins only. For governor there were 151 or 0.87% of the total cast. Topinka carried the county with 47%, Blagojevich 45% and Whitney 7.3%.

Marshall County’s web page is devoid of election results, as is Mason County’s.

McHenry Count
y doesn’t break out who voted for whom, but does report that 1,338 people cast a write-in vote for governor. That was 1.76% of the total votes cast. Topinka carried the county with 47.8%, followed by Blagojevich with 37.3% and Whitney with 13.1%.

McLean County reported 240 gubernatorial write-in votes, 1.3% of the total. Topinka carried the county with almost 52% of the vote, with Blagojevich trailing at 33%. Green Party candidate Whitney received almost 14% of the votes cast.

Bloomington, in McLean County, reported 1.3% of the votes for governor were written-in. The number was 240.

Monroe County almost hit the 1% mark for write-in voters. 105 cast such votes.

1.36% of Morgan County voters cast write-in votes for governor. That’s 162 people.

Almost 1.6% (172) of the folks in Montgomery County cast write-in votes.

In Ogle County, where Stufflebeam campaign manager Eunice Conn lives, 3.3% (527) of the votes for governor were write-ins. Topinka got 44%, Blagojevich 31% and Whitney 21%. There are not details of which candidate got how many.

Perry County
shows 49 write-in votes or .063% of the vote.

Piatt County does not have election results I can find.

In Putnam County, the smallest in size in Illinois, 16 people cast write-in votes for governor. That was 7/10ths of 1% of the electorate.

In Pulaski County the write-in total was 12 or 0.43% of the vote cast.

In Vermillion County, just over 1% or 158 of the people voting cast write-in votes for governor, but details are not given.

The election commission in Danville, which is in Vermillion County, says 1.1% or 88 people voted write-in for governor.

In Warren County, almost 2/3 of 1% of the votes for governor were by write-in. 38 people, in all.

In Whiteside County, 8/10ths of one percent of those casting votes for governor did so by write-in. That was 140 people.

In Will County, there were 2,302 write-in votes for governor. That was almost 1.5% of the total cast. Blagojevich’s 46% carried the day. Topinka got almost 42% and Whitney received 10.6%.

1.69% of the people in Williamson County voted write-in for governor, totaling 346 people.

In the part of Winnebago County surrounding the City of Rockford, 2.9% or 1,191 of the votes for governor were write-ins. Blagojevich carried the contest 38.5% to Topinka’s 35% to Whitney’s 23.7%.

In the Winnebago County's City of Rockford, the write-in votes were not identified, but 2.15% or 798 of the votes cast for governor were write-ins. Blagojevich won with 43.8% of the vote. Topinka had just 30.9%, while Green Party candidate Whitney garnered 23.2%.

Woodford County may have had the highest percentage of write-in votes for governor outside of Ogle County—2.53%. That’s 322 people.

There is no report of write-ins for Bond County, Bureau County, Chicago, Cok County, Christian County, Clark County, Clinton County, Coles County, Cumberland County, DeWitt County, Edgar County, Ford County, Kane County (and the Aurora Election Commission), Jo Davies County, Lake County, Lee County, Livingston County, Macon County, Madison County, McDonough County, Moultrie County, Pike County, Randolph County, Rock Island, Schulyer County, Shelby County, Stephenson County, St. Clair County (and on the East St. Louis Election Commission web site, I can’t find any election results), Tazewell County, Union County.

If a county is not mentioned, it does not have a web site.
