7 of 10 Death Penalty Qualified Attorneys Work for State's Attorney
7of 10 CAPITAL LITIGATION QUALIFIED ATTORNEYS IN STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
Louis A. Bianchi, the State’s Attorney of McHenry County, is pleased to announce that Assistant State’s Attorney Ryan Blackney has been admitted by the Supreme Court of Illinois as a member of the Capital Litigation Trial Bar.
The Capital Litigation Trial Bar was created by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2001 to ensure that attorneys who prosecute or defend capital cases have the ability, knowledge and experience to do so in a competent, ethical and professional manner. Only ten attorneys in McHenry County are certified to prosecute or defend capital cases, seven are prosecutors employed by Louis Bianchi’s office.
Blackney is a Felony Prosecutor in the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office. He is a 2001 graduate of Miami University in Ohio and a 2003 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law. Blackney has been a prosecutor for five years, having previously served in DuPage County as a criminal prosecutor. Blackney has tried a total of 20 felony trials since 2007 when he was hired by State’s Attorney Louis Bianchi.
